Sand Etching

We provide Sand Etching services in house at our Richmond location. Our sand blaster can engrave glass, metal, crystal, marble and similar materials. For most materials sand etching will give you a frosted engraving appearance which is ideal for glass and crystal. There are various types of sand blasters and ours is setup up for fine detail which is better suited for awards and small engraving projects, because of this we can not do big bold letters or deep cut engraving projects. Also keep in mind the engraving surface must be completely flat or curve in one direct like a coffee mug. If your object curves in 2 directions such as a wine glasses we still maybe able to engrave it but your engraving area will be much smaller. Even though we do fine detail sand etching, your artwork must at least contain 14 point fonts and some logos will have to be simplified if they have too much detail.

Sand etching is usually priced per piece with a minimum charge approximately of $25 because it is vary labor extensive, but we do offer discounts for larger quantities. If you are bringing in your own product to be engraved there will be a setup charge. As with all engraving services sand etching is a permanent process so please bring extras of pieces that you want engraved or some sample pieces we can test on. A proof before production may be supplied if requested.

Artwork Guidelines

  • Please supply your artwork files in either of the following formats in this order of preference, PDF (Portable Document File), CDR (Corel Draw), EPS (Encapsulated Postscript) or AI (Adobe Illustrator).
  • Artwork for engraving should be in pure black and white, no gray or shading because engraving is either a cut or no cut, there is no half engraving on most materials.
  • Depending on what we are engraving, fonts should be no smaller than 12 points. You will also get better results if you use sans serif fonts for smaller print.
  • Photos supplied for engraving or for color reproduction should be at least 200 DPI, depending on final size of the product.

Please take a look at our Artwork page for more information on what to look for to get the best results.
